CHUCK NORRIS to have bridge named after him in Slovakia following vote
Slovaks are voting overwhelmingly in favour of naming a bridge close to the country's capital after US action film star Chuck Norris.
The bridge, which crosses the Morova river into Austria, looks set to be known as the Chuck Norris Bridge with the film star currently having 74 per cent of the vote.
As it stands, 1,157 votes have been cast in favour of Norris, largely because of his 'kitsch' popularity among Slovaks. His name is often the punchline in jokes relating to macho strength.
The final decision will be made by the regional assembly but officials have said that the internet ballot's decision will be respected.
Regional governor Pavol Freso, said: 'The same way as we have so far been building it in full sight of the public, we will seek that the name is accepted by the public as well.'
Also in contention for the name of the bridge are former Austro-Hungarian empress Maria Thereas, who currently has eight per cent of the vote in second place.
Another contender is a small village close to the bridge, Devinska.
Norris is a martial arts expert and famous film star who has, throughout his career, built a reputation for playing tough guy characters in movies including Lone Wolf McQuade, Missing in Action and The Delta Force.
I believed the bridge would be tough and challenging like this:
Didn't believe me?
