36 roads closed for KL Marathon 2012
THIRTY-SIX roads in the city will be closed in stages, involving Bukit Bintang area, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kuching and Dataran Merdeka, to make way for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2012, held on June 24.
The race will be flagged off and end at Dataran Merdeka.
Kuala Lumpur traffic chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the road closures were to ensure that the event would run smoothly and to ensure safety for the estimated 28,000 participants.
He said the roads would be closed in stages 15 minutes before the race started and reopened at noon. However, he said Dataran Merdeka would be closed from June 22.
"Some 400 traffic policemen and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers will be deployed to regulate traffic flow. The roads will be closed in stages 15 minutes before the first flag off at 4am," he told reporters here today.
The affected roads are Jalan Raja, Jalan Hishamuddin, Hishamuddin roundabout, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Travers, Jalan Tun Sambathan, Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah, Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur-Seremban.
Jalan Sg. Besi, Jalan Istana, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Cheras, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh, Segambut roundabout.
Jalan Kuching, Jalan Duta, Jalan Langgak Tunku, Jalan Tunku, Jalan Tun Ismail, Jalan Sultan Salehuddin, Bulatan Dato Onn, Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Semarang and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
He said motorists from Kepong, could take the alternative roads at Jalan Kuching and Jalan Sultan Ismail while people from Kajang, could take Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Loke Yew, to the capital.
"People from Seremban Highway, can take Jalan Tun Razak, Pahang roundabout, Sungai Besi roundabaout, Jalan Loke Yew and Jalan Sultan Ismail while people from Setapak, can take the Pahang roundabout to the city," he added.
