BBM release for iPhone & Android delayed?

BlackBerry has confirmed that it has aborted the rollout of BBM for Android and iPhone. BBM was scheduled to land on 21 and 22 of September for Android and iPhone respectively, but has now been delayed and the reason is said to be the leaked version of the application, which appeared online last week.

BBM is one of BlackBerry’s most valuable assets next to the company’s corporate email technology (BES), but the decision to bring the IM client to Android and iOS has been fraught with issues – the most recent being the news of BlackBerry’s potential sale Fairfax Financial. BBM will go into direct competition with services like WhatsApp on Apple and Google’s mobile platforms.

Interestingly, WhatsApp now boasts around 200 million users, according to The Telegraph, versus BBM’s 60 million. BlackBerry hasn’t discussed expected adoption rates thus far, but a look at the gross figures show that BBM has a long way to go before it catches up with WhatsApp. Still, 1 million downloads of the leaked APK is a pretty decent start.

Hackers Build Affordable Video Game Controllers For The Disabled

Thomas has muscular dystrophy. This means he's going to gradually lose strength and control in his muscles over time. He has already lost his ability to stand, and even holding buttons on a game-pad for extended times can be difficult.

Gaming, as you can imagine, is very important to Thomas and people like him. It offers a release of frustration, like it does for all of us, but also a level playing ground. When he's in the game, he's like everyone else.

BlackBerry Messenger coming soon to iPhone and Android devices?

BlackBerry is making its Messenger (BBM) real-time messaging service available on Apple's iPhone and iPad and Google's Android platforms from summer, abandoning the platform exclusivity that had for years been a crucial tool in attracting and retaining users.

Announcing the move at the company's developer conference, software vice president Andrew Bocking said: "the time is definitely right for BBM to become a multi-platform mobile service. BBM has always been one of the most engaging services for BlackBerry customers, enabling them to easily connect while maintaining a valued level of personal privacy. We're excited to offer iOS and Android users the possibility to join the BBM community."

Chief executive Thorsten Heins called the move "a statement of confidence". BlackBerry says that BBM has more than 60 million monthly active users, with more than 51 million using BBM for an average of 90 minutes per day. Its customers collectively send and receive more than 10bn messages daily, with almost half read within 20 second of being received, it said.

Is this the new Samsung SIV?

Leaked picture. But is this the real SIV?

Samsung confirms Galaxy S4 to launch March 14. The company is expected to issue invitations this morning to a "Samsung Unpacked" event in New York next month. CNET has confirmed it will be the Galaxy S4 launch.

BARCELONA, Spain--Samsung Electronics will unveil its next flagship smartphone, theGalaxy S4, on March 14, CNET has confirmed. Samsung is set to send out invitations this morning to a "Samsung Unpacked" event in New York for next month, CNET has learned.

While the invitation contained little details, CNET has confirmed with a high-level executive that the Galaxy S4 will make its debut there. After the blockbuster success of the Galaxy S3, anticipation has surged for the successor to the Galaxy S franchise.

The Galaxy S3 last year emerged as a true rival to Apple's iPhone, even seeing accelerating sales after the iPhone 5 launched late last year. Indeed, Samsung's tease will likely overshadow many of the other announcements at Mobile World Congress, which like the Consumer Electronics Show has seen its relevance diminish as the major players opt for their own announcements.

HTC last week debuted its flagship One smartphone at its own global event in London and New York. Earlier reports pegged the launch to occur on March 14, and there have been loads of specifications that are rumored to be included.

Samsung rolls out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy S II

Samsung rolls out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S II GT-I9100

Samsung has just started to push Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to the International Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100. The Galaxy S II is the best-selling Android device of 2011 and has a very large user base that’s why Samsung keeps on updating this device with all the new Android versions as they want to provide the Galaxy S II users with their best support experience.

You might not be able to update your device to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean right away as the update is rolling out in phases. So, it might not yet be available for your country or network provider (If Your device is Carrier branded) but don’t worry the update will arrive soon.

In the history of software updates, the new Jelly Bean update by Samsung to the Galaxy S II is by far the most major update given to a smartphone yet. As we all know Samsung’s ICS update didn’t had any UI changes and had exactly the same UI which was in its Gingerbread  but this is not the case with Samsung’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.

The new jelly bean update breathes a new life into the Galaxy S II, Samsung has completely ditched the old UI and has given the new Nature UX Interface, which is the same as the one being used in the Galaxy S III Mini and the Galaxy S III, in its latest Jelly Bean update.

All the new Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmwares for the Galaxy S II are present in our Firmware Section as well. You can use our Firmware Section to manually update your device if for some reason you can’t officially update your device via Samsung Kies or via OTA as you are using a Custom ROM or if your Country has yet not received the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update.

Samsung Galaxy S II and Note to receive Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 in January

Although most of the loyal users of Galaxy S II and Note expected the Jelly Bean update to arrive before the holidays, this news isn't all that bad.

According to a recent leaked test ROM, both devices will skip the initial Jelly Bean rollout, and move directly to the 4.1.2 version. The update is set to bring all the well-known Jelly Bean goodies, as well as some of the Note II features.

We already have official confirmation from Rogers (Canadian carrier), saying that the JB 4.1.2 update will reach the S II and Note II in late January.

Now, if we take under consideration that unlocked models always receive new firmware before the carrier-locked ones, this means that an early January rollout seems almost sure.

Facebook dituduh 'curi' data pengguna

NEW YORK 4 Dis.

#OPSYRIA Anonymous Hackers Target Syrian President & Websites Following Nationwide Internet Shutdown

Anonymous, the hacktivist organization has spoken out against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's violent military campaign against his own people, but the Middle East dictator pushed the online army to far when he shut down his country's internet (more on that here).

Anonymous hackers responded with a two pronged attack, leaking President Assad's personal emails while claiming to have shut down "all official Syrian websites," according to a tweet from @Anon_Support. Another Anonymous Twitter account, @AnonOpsLegion, supported the claim of successful hacktivism, writing, "Syrian's Internet is down all Official Syrian websites ARE dancing in a deep #tangodown Gov.sy links are down #OPSyria #Syria #Anonymous."

A quick Google search for gov.sy brought up links to several national Syrian websites, inlcuding the Ministry of Information (http://www.moi.gov.sy/en/) and Central Bank of Syria (www.banquecentrale.gov.sy/). Both sites appeared down. However, when Anonymous hacks a website they often leave behind a message of their own. I'm not sure why that isn't the case here, or what that means.

At the same time, Anonymous hackers have released a personal email belonging to President Assad detailing his preparations for an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC from earlier in 2012. The email was posted on Scribd. It details how Assad planned to respond to questions regarding Violence, Bloodshed, Torture Policy, Facebook and YouTube, and "Civil War in both Syrian and neighboring countries."

Hackers take over Israeli minister's Twitter and Facebook account

An Israeli cabinet minister's Twitter account was hacked by a pro-Palestinian outfit which posted messages in his name calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "murdering psychopath".

The string of tweets on the page belonging to Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom included messages reading: "FREE PALESTINE! END THE OCCUPATION! STOP THE MURDER OF PALESTINIANS NOW!"

Another said: "Benjamin Netanyahu is a Zionist murdering psychopath" while others called for a worldwide boycott of Israeli products.

The page was down for several hours, but has since been reinstated and the tweets in question deleted.

An outfit calling itself ZCompanyHackingCrew that has also claimed attacks on the websites of NATO and the British defence ministry claimed responsibility for hacking Shalom's Twitter and other social media accounts.

"@SilvanShalom WAS The Official Twitter Page of The Vice Prime Minister of Israel. Hacked by @Z_H_C_," the activists announced early on Wednesday, local time.

"#silvanshalom was the guy who said to blow up #gaza two days ago. Taste it now!" it said in another message.

Hactivism: Is it good or bad?

Hacktivism  is the use of computers and computer networks as a means of protest to promote political ends. The term was first coined in 1996 by a member of the Cult of the Dead Cow hacker collective named Omega.

If hacking as "illegally breaking into computers" is assumed, then hacktivism could be defined as "the use of legal and/or illegal digital tools in pursuit of political ends".

These tools include web site defacements, redirects, denial-of-service attacks or DDos, information theft, web site parodies, virtual sit-ins, typosquatting and virtual sabotage.

Some attack governments, large corporations... and steal personal identities. Others use their skills for political activism. They are hackers. And in a rare sit down interview with a member of the infamous collective "Anonymous", they will tell us the truth.

Anonymous is BACK! Targets Israel by Taking Down Hundreds of Websites and Leaking Emails and Passwords

Greetings World

For far too long, Anonymous has stood by with the rest of the world and watched in despair the barbaric, brutal and despicable treatment of the Palestinian people in the so called "Occupied Territories" by the Israel Defense Force. Like so many around the globe, we have felt helpless in the face of such implacable evil. And today's insane attack and threatened invasion of Gaza was more of the same.

But when the government of Israel publicly threatened to sever all Internet and other telecommunications into and out of Gaza they crossed a line in the sand. As the former dictator of Egypt Mubarack learned the hard way – we are ANONYMOUS and NO ONE shuts down the Internet on our watch. To the IDF and government of Israel we issue you this warning only once. Do NOT shut down the Internet into the "Occupied Territories", and cease and desist from your terror upon the innocent people of Palestine or you will know the full and unbridled wrath of Anonymous. And like all the other evil governments that have faced our rage, you will NOT survive it unscathed.

To the people of Gaza and the "Occupied Territories", know that Anonymous stands with you in this fight. We will do everything in our power to hinder the evil forces of the IDF arrayed against you. We will use all our resources to make certain you stay connected to the Internet and remain able to transmit your experiences to the world. As a start, we have put together the Anonymous Gaza Care Package – http://bit.ly/XH87C5 – which contains instructions in Arabic and English that can aid you in the event the Israel government makes good on it's threat to attempt to sever your Internet connection. It also contains useful information on evading IDF surveillance, and some basic first aid and other useful information. We will continue to expand and improve this document in the coming days, and we will transmit it to you by every means at our disposal. We encourage you to download this package, and to share it with your fellow Palestinians to the best of your ability.

iPad vs Microsoft Surface: Tablet Specs Compared

Just days before Microsoft’s Surface officially hit the market, Apple dropped a bomb on Redmond by announcing its new fourth-generation iPad. Packed with a more powerful A6X processor and offering improved Wi-Fi connectivity, the latest iPad could spell trouble for Microsoft’s big comeback.

So how do does the Surface compare to Apple’s latest iPad? Well, for starters, there are two versions of the Surface, an Nvidia Tegra 3-powered model running Windows RT (available now) and a more business-friendly Intel Core i5-powered model running Windows 8 Pro (likely coming in January).

Both Surfaces are larger and heavier than the iPad 2. The screens measure 10.6-inches with resolutions of 1366 x 768 for the Surface with Windows RT and 1920 x 1080 for the Surface Pro. The Surface RT weighs 1.5  pounds versus vs. 1.44 pounds for Apple’s slate. The Windows 8 Pro model is nearly 2 pounds.

The fourth-generation iPad has the same Retina display as its predecessor, packing 2048 x 1536 pixels inside a 9.7-inch display. In our side-by-side comparison, Apple’s screen was not only brighter but offered better detail, color and contrast.

Some other points of difference include storage size: the Surface with Windows RT comes with 32GB of built-in storage, double the amount inside the entry-level iPad (16GB). Plus, the Surface includes a microSD Card slot for expansion, something the iPad doesn’t offer. The Windows 8 Pro additional will start with 64GB.
