KUALA LUMPUR - A fruit seller, who claimed she merely honked once at a Perodua Myvi driver for driving too slow, was repeatedly assaulted by the man.
Yap Kim Pat, 55, claimed the ordeal began when she was driving her lorry in Jalan Kuching and was trying to make a left turn to head to a petrol station.
"After sounding the horn, I overtook the car but the driver suddenly accelerated and stopped," she said at a press conference at Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng's service centre yesterday.
With the car blocking her way, the man alighted from the Myvi and knocked on her window repeatedly before she wound it down.
"Without a word, the man kept punching me until my nose bled profusely and was swollen. Then he went off," said Yap.
She said she was grateful that two motorcyclists came to her aid and tried to pursue the assailant.
"However, he tried to run down the motorcyclists but they managed to take down the plate number," she said, adding she went to Kuala Lumpur Hospital to seek treatment and lodged a police report at Sentul police station.
Yap, who was in tears when relating the incident, said she was merely seeking justice and for the man to be put behind bars.
"I am just an old woman. I don't deserve such a brutal attack," she said, adding her nose still bleeds and she has been unable to work since the incident.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing injury.
He stressed that the police were committed to completing the case in one week.
